I'm Perfect, You're Doomed by Kyria Abrahams

I'm mad.

I decided to read this book because it was written from the viewpoint of a past Jehovah's Witness.   As a comedian,  I thought the author would tell a humourous tale that also shared insight into the beliefs of Jehovahs' Wittnesses.    The book started out in that vein, but unfortuntaly ended in an all out blame game.  

Kyria Abrahams is born into a family of practicing Jehovah's Witnesses.   Unfortuntually, her parents don't really like each other.   Feeling trapped in their marriage because their church family disapproves of divorce, her parents did not provide a loving home enviroment for Kyria and her brother, Aaron. 

Kyria blames her poor marriage on the church.   She makes a choice to get married as a teenager and then unsurprisingly wants out of her marriage.   Of course, the church is there to blame.  Of course Kyria's decision making skills are at an all time high since she is usually high.    She cheats on her husband; finally gets a divorce and disfellowedship from the Jehovah's Witnesses and feels free to sleep with her best friend's boyfriend.   She's showing her former churchmates a thing or two.  

I'm mad because I was lured into reading this book thinking it would be an amusing look back at Kyria's childhood.   I wanted to see the insight only a former member could provide.  Kyria also bills herself as a comedian.   Her early childhood is explored in quite an amusing way, but as she enters her teens the humor evaporates and the whining commences!
